“JUST OPEN SOME CANS! Choose 2 favorite seafood cans, 1 can of tomato paste, and 1 can of diced tomatoes to make a delicious, fast sauce in 10 minutes while your pasta is boiling!
I used 2 cans of tuna fish for the dish pictured. You can use canned shrimp, clams, salmon, crab, whatever you like, or mix them up. Tuna and Spaghetti recipes go way back! Decades! This is my stepped up version, and we love it! Bill said, ” How about adding some Spanish olives!” If you like any kind of olives, they go really well with this too. Add them in to the sauce at the end when you add the fish. Enjoy!”
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- pinch of salt (1/16 teaspoon)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/8 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 cans ( 5 ounces each) solid tuna fish, undrained (packed in water or in oil), or any canned seafood you like
- 3/4 pound spaghetti, or pasta of your choice
- boiling water for your pasta
DIRECTIONS:
- 1. Put some water in a large pot to boil your pasta. Add the pasta when it is boiling. In the meantime, make the sauce.
- 2. In a medium saucepan on medium heat, add the olive oil. Saute the garlic and black pepper in the oil for a minute or two.
- 3. Add the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, salt, basil, crushed red pepper, and the 1/2 cup of water. Mix and stir for a few minutes.
- 4. Add the tuna, or whatever cans of fish you choose. Stir for a few minutes.
- 5. Drain the pasta when it is done and add it to the sauce. Serve topped with chopped fresh basil or parsley and grated cheese.
