Pizza with Ground Beef, Low Calorie

Pizza   “Homemade pizza with crumbled ground beef…. delicious! And not too bad of a calorie count at 257 per serving or 7 Weight Watcher points.  Take the time to proof your yeast, that is, wait the ten minutes after mixing the yeast, sugar, and warm water.  As carbon dioxide is being released, you need to see foaming bubbles on the surface as proof your yeast is active and good enough to use in your dough.   Enjoy!”

INGREDIENTS:

PIZZA DOUGH:

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast, (1 package)
1 cup warm water, (100°-110°F)
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons oil
2 cups flour

TOPPING:

1 pound ground beef
2 cups crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon oregano
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
¼ cup Romano cheese, grated

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 450°.
2. Grease or spray a 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan.
3. In large bowl, mix warm water, sugar and yeast, stir until yeast is dissolved. Let stand 10 minutes until yeast has proofed.
4. Add the salt, oil, and flour and mix well until a dough forms.
5. Use immediately, or you can let the dough rise 30 minutes in a covered greased bowl if you wish.
6. In a large skillet cook the ground beef, crumbling it fine. Drain any grease. Set aside.
7. Spread dough into prepared pan, pressing a crust towards edges of pan with your fingers so the crust raises to the rim of the pan.
8. Spread crushed tomatoes over the dough, leaving the crust white.
9. Sprinkle the oregano, salt, pepper, cheese over the tomatoes.
10. Bake pizza for 8 minutes.
11. Remove from oven, add the cooked, crumbled ground beef over top of pizza.
12. Bake another 5 – 7 minutes.
13. Cut into 8 squares.
14. Serve hot.
