The popular Strawberry Spinach Salad recipe has made the rounds in restaurants and fast food places and it is delicious!   It has quickly become a classic and is here to stay!   There are many, many variations of it!  I am sure a lot of people have made it or tasted it already.  If not, give it a try!

It has an amazing sweet and sour dressing!

I loved this salad when it first came out.  Then I began to add other fruit and vegetables to the salad, then later cheese, raisins, nuts, grilled chicken, whatever I had on hand or felt like adding.

It can become a nice delicious light meal instead of a side.

DOUBLE the dressing recipe and keep it in the fridge for whenever you feel like a refreshing green salad with fruit. That way it’s faster to whip up this delicious salad!

GREENS: For me it works better with fresh spinach than any other salad greens.

FRUIT: And because it is a sweet dressing it goes really well with some fruit in the salad.

GO EASY! You have to pour the dressing over the salad just before serving. Use a light hand with the dressing so it doesn’t sink into a pool on the bottom of the bowl!  Use just enough to coat the greens.

VARIATIONS: Try mixing in a variety like:  mandarin oranges, apples, pears, berries, melons, cranraisins, dried fruit, pecans, celery, carrots, pistachios, walnuts, almonds, pepperoni, bacon, other varieties of meats and cheese.

PICTURED HERE with the spinach is strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges, pistachios, raisins, and feta cheese.

But really, it is the DRESSING that is the star!

Enjoy!

Prep Time15 minutes
Course: Appetizer, Brunch, Main Course, Salad, Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup oil your favorite
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon onion minced
  • 10 ounces spinach fresh, teared in half
  • 4 cups mixed fruit any you wish
  • 1 cup feta cheese or any cheese
  • 1 cup raisins or any dried fruit
  • ¼ cup slivered almonds pistachios, walnuts, pecans, any nuts, optional
  • ¼ cup bacon bits optional

Instructions

  • In a small bowl mix the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sugar, oil, white vinegar, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and onion together. Chill the dressing in the refrigerator for 1 hour if you can, but it is not necessary. It is still delicious if you use it right away.
  • In a large bowl, combine the spinach, fruit, and whatever else you have put in the salad.
  • Lightly pour some of the dressing into your salad and wait a few minutes to let it set before serving. Do not use a lot of dressing! You don’t want it to pool in the bottom of the bowl.
  • Save the remaining dressing in the refrigerator for another time!

EXTRA TIP:

VARY the fruit, cheese, nuts, and meats to what you like or have on hand!
