Wine Biscuits

Wine Biscuits

“My good friend Donna Marinaccio O’Brien gave me this old world wine biscuit recipe which I think is the best one ever!  Donna is a fantastic cook and baker and has great recipes she has shared with me over the years.

NO rolling-pin is needed, just form the dough into ropes and shape with your hands!  I am not a fan of the hard wine biscuits you can buy, but these I love. They have a softer texture and are so-oo tasty!  The best!  It’s hard to eat just one!   Use red wine for color. Enjoy the wonderful aroma and texture of these wine biscuits!”

Makes: about 36

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup oil
1 cup red wine
1 teaspoon salt
5 cups flour
5 teaspoons baking powder

1. Preheat the oven to 350°.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the brown sugar, white sugar, oil, red wine, and salt.
3. Add the flour and baking powder. Mix well.
4. Roll a tablespoon piece of dough into a 5 inch rope.
5. Shape the rope into a circle, leave it long, make a pretzel shape, or form into whatever shape you want.
6. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
7. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
8. Cool on wire rack. Store them covered in a tin on top of the counter.
