Heirloom Ambrosia Salad

This memorable old-fashioned, now heirloom ambrosia salad has made an appearance at every family BBQ for longer than I care to remember!  It is made with sour cream and not Cool Whip or yogurt like some ambrosia recipes I’ve seen.  I love sour cream!  I could eat a spoonful right from the container!

It has just the right combination of fruit and it’s so easy to put together in just a few minutes.

I have it memorized for all the times people have asked for the recipe!

This is a great fruit combination that everyone likes, but you can use 2 cups of whatever fruit you like.

This recipe yields about 3 cups.

Enjoy!

This is exactly the same way my mom made it, and it seems like we always had it in the fridge. Maybe it was because it was her favorite. Thank you for sharing–I have been wanting this recipe for the longest time–and no whip cream–straight up sour cream!

Love this recipe. My hubby’s mom gave me this same recipe when we were first married. She called it her 5 cup salad, that helps me remember what to put into it! I’m with you as to having sour cream and not cool whip. We use this for a side item at special occasions and anytime we just want it. Easy to make. Really like the idea of adding the other fruits.

I could eat a spoonful of sour cream from the container too! 🙂 This reminds me of my childhood. I loved ambrosia salad. We always had it with cool whip. But the waldorf salad was always made with sour cream. Really enjoy these vintage style recipes you keep posting. 🙂

Thanks for commenting and glad I am not the only one who likes sour cream straight! 🙂 I’ll keep emptying my box of my vintage favorites and once in a while I stick in new ones I love, like the recent “flatizza”. LOL I enjoy your blog a lot!…and will be poking around it tonight! 🙂
