Split Pea Soup


“Nothing compares to the homemade version of split pea soup and this is the best I have ever tasted!       Enjoy!”

Servings 10   Cook Time: 30 minutes   Makes: 2 3/4 quarts


1 pound dried green split peas (2 cups)
7 cups water
1 (15-ounce) can chicken broth
1 teaspoon canola oil
2 ham hocks
3 cups cubed, cooked ham
2 cups diced carrots
1 cup diced celery
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced potato
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup minced, fresh parsley


1. In a large soup kettle, bring peas, water, chicken broth, ham hocks, and oil to a boil.
2. Reduce heat to very low, cover, and simmer for 2 hours.

3. Remove ham hocks.

4. Stir in ham, carrrots, celery, onions, potatoes, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
5. Simmer for 30 minutes more.
6. Stir in parsley.

    • This is the tastiest, best split pea soup I ever tried! I have soup all through the summer, no problem! Thanks for compliments on the pictures! The credit goes all to Uncle Bill, he sure knows how to use that camera! Hope someday to actually do a video.
